What to Pack for the South of France in Spring: 7 Outfit Ideas from a Simple Capsule Wardrobe
When it comes to packing for the South of France in spring, I like to approach it the same way I do for Paris: with a capsule mindset! It keeps things simple, chic, and gives you endless styling options without overpacking. Instead of planning every outfit down to the detail, I focus on a few intentional pieces that can be mixed and matched throughout the trip!
This guide is inspired by the region I’m originally from, Languedoc-Roussillon, a beautiful part of southern France known for its cobblestone villages, coastal towns, and relaxed way of life. But this capsule can easily be adapted whether you’re heading to Provence, the Côte d’Azur, or even just looking to bring a bit of springtime French charm to your everyday wardrobe!
So, what’s the weather like in the South of France in spring?
The weather can vary depending on where you are, but generally, you can expect temperatures ranging from the low 50s to mid 70s°F (around 10 to 24°C), with sunshine most days and the occasional breeze or light coastal rain, especially in April! Mornings can still be crisp, so layers are key, but it’s also the perfect season for lighter fabrics and woven accessories. Temperatures tend to warm up quite a bit toward the end of May!
Typically, spring weather in the South of France is quite similar to what you’d expect in Southern California - mild, sunny, and breezy. But this year, when I went in March, it was actually pretty cold and windy! So if you’re planning a trip around the springtime, definitely check the forecast ahead of time, you might need to pack some warmer layers just in case!
This guide is meant to be a base you can build on with your own personality, whether that’s a colorful scarf, a bold lip, or a statement earring from a boutique in town. You can also easily swap in a dress or an extra sweater depending on your itinerary!

Packing Tips:
Pack a layer for the wind: If La Tramontane shows up (and it often does in spring), you’ll be glad to have layers and a jacket! It’s a dry, chilly wind that sweeps through the Languedoc region, especially along the coast.
Be kind to your feet: The region is full of cobbled paths, stone villages, and narrow alleys, so I’d skip stilettos. If you do want a little height, I’d go for wedges or a block heel, they’re chic but practical (and your ankles will thank you).
Leave room to shop: South of France is full of treasures! From antiques in Pézenas to one-of-a-kind pieces in tiny Montpellier boutiques. I always leave space in my suitcase for something special I pick up along the way!
Keep it neutral & breathable: Linen, cotton, and soft knits are ideal for spring. They layer well, travel beautifully, and give you that relaxed, polished look the region is known for!
Whether you're exploring the stone paths of Saint-Guilhem, enjoying wine with a view in Roquebrun, or simply planning your next vacation wardrobe, I hope this capsule helps you pack with ease, dress with confidence, and feel like the most elevated version of yourself!
It’s a reminder that style doesn’t need to be complicated. Start with beautiful basics, layer thoughtfully, and let your personal touch shine, whether that’s a pop of color, your go-to lipstick, or a vintage treasure you picked up along the way!
With Amour,
M.
